1. What do I have to know when buying Alveus kitchen sink?

When buying a kitchen sink it is recommended to consider the following:
1. Cabinet width – first of all, you must know the dimensions/width of the sink cabinet, which limits your choices.
Our sinks are classified according to the minimum required cabinet width, namely 400, 450, 500, 600, 800, 900 and 1000 mm, plus 900x900 mm corner cabinet. Smaller kitchen sinks can be accommodated by larger cabinets, but never vice versa. For instance, a sink dimensioned to fit a cabinet of 400 mm minimum width can also be installed into any cabinet exceeding the designated size.

2 Sink orientation –
once you have determined the cabinet width, you have to determine the right orientation of the sink on the kitchen worktop. You can choose among left-hand, right-hand and reversible sink designs. Most sinks being reversible, you need not to worry about the orientation upon your purchase, as you can turn the sinks with drainer either way according to your needs.

3. In the next step
, you can choose among various materials (stainless steel or composite material), various installation types (inset, flush mount inset, flat mount, undermount or sit-on) and, various sink designs.

2. What kind of materials are Alveus kitchen sinks made of?

Alveus kitchen sinks are available in several materials, surface finishes and colours:
  • Premium 18/10 Stainless Steel in six different finishes: SATIN, LEINEN, MICROLEINEN, ANTHRACITE, GOLD and COPPER
  • Composite ALGRANIT material in wide range of colours.

3. What are the main characteristics and advantages of stainless steel?

The main characteristics and advantages of 18/10 stainless steel are:
  • Easy cleaning which ensures high level of hygiene
  • Resistance to high temperatures and rapid temperature changes (thermal shock)
  • Resistance to impacts
  • Resistance to chemical influences
  • 100 % recyclability

4. What are the differences between surface finishes?

1. SATIN, LEINEN AND MICROLEINEN SURFACE FINISH
The difference between finishes is mainly reflected in their appearance and partly in their scratch resistance. While SATIN finish produces a polished, easy-to-clean stainless steel surface, the LEINEN and MICROLEINEN finishes produce a matte texture, which is less sensitive to tiny scratches, but requires a bit more care. The technical characteristics of basic material are the same in all varieties; however, certain sinks are not always available in all three finishes.

2. ANTHRACITE, GOLD AND COPPER SURFACE FINISH
These unique colour shades are obtained through special surface treatment of stainless steel. A thin vapourised metal substance known as ceramic nitride is deposited onto stainless steel surface, resulting in:
  • - unique metal lustre,
  • - superior scratch resistance,
  • - extremely hard-wearing protective surface
The surface-treated stainless steel is available in three precious metal colour shades - GOLD, COPPER and ANTHRACITE. Due to the nature of surface treatment process, each sink ends up with unique colour shade.

5. What is the steel thickness/gauge of Alveus kitchen sinks?

The stainless steel (CrNi) thickness ranges from 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm, depending on the price range of sink.

6. What are the characteristics and advantages of Algranit composite material?

The ALGRANIT composite material contains 70 per cent of granite particles bonded together by high-quality polymer resin to achieve excellent sturdiness and resistance to temperatures of up to 280°C.

The ALGRANIT sinks boast excellent resistance to scratches and impacts, while their polished surface ensures easy cleaning; dirt, stains, scale and even accidentally spilt chemicals can be removed effortlessly. Increased material sturdiness and cleaning in accordance with the instructions guarantee long service life of Algranit sinks.

Alveus kitchen sinks come in various orientations to adjust perfectly to your kitchen requirements.
To make your decision easier, every sink presentation in this catalogue includes a list of available orientations:
  • left-hand - large bowl on the left, drainer on the right.
  • right-hand - large bowl on the right, drainer on the left.
  • reversible - both orientations possible, either bowl on the left or on the right.
  • unoriented - any arrangement and alignment possible.
  • corner - can be installed into corner cabinets, some models also into regular cabinets, depending on model dimensions.

8. Do the sinks come in various installation types?

Alveus sinks are suitable for various installation types, thus adjusting completely to the design and architectural requirements of your kitchen.

Inset sinks ( I )
Inset sinks are installed into kitchen worktops, thus forming part of the continuous work surface. The sink is inserted into a suitable size cut-out from the top, and fastened with the supplied clamps. Inset sinks are suitable for worktops measuring between 25 to 40 mm in thickness.

Flush mount inset sinks ( F )
Flush mount inset sinks are installed into worktops made of waterproof materials (natural stone, composite materials), properly cut to allow the top rim of the sink to be level with the worktop. The advantages of flush mount inset kitchen sinks are seamless work surface, very easy cleaning and attractive appearance.

Flat mount sinks ( S )
Flat mount sinks are installed into a worktop so as to create a uniform work surface. Thin, almost unnoticeable rims allow quick and easy cleaning, an additional advantage being simple installation.
There are numerous combinations and bowl sizes available.

Undermount bowls ( U )
Undermount bowls are attached from underneath the worktop, the sink rims thus concealed under the work surface made of natural stone or composite materials. This installation type allows the utilisation of larger dimensions and limitless combinations. The absence of sink-to-worktop joints contributes to simple hygiene maintenance and overall appeal of the kitchen.

Sit-on sinks
Sit-on sinks are installed as a top end element of one or two kitchen cabinets. The height of sit-on sink edge falls with 30 mm thickness of standard kitchen worktops. Sinks are normally made also with rear wall rim of 30 mm however there are version without it.

9. What is a Pop-Up Waste?

Certain sinks are supplied with pop-up drains, which allow automatic operation of the stopper. This is very practical for the moments when you wish to close an outflow or empty the water out of a full sink without getting your hands wet

10. What is an overflow?

Alveus sinks are designed in a way that the excess water does not remain on the level surfaces, but is drained either through the central drain or overflow. The overflow is an opening on the bowl wall or drainer, which prevents water from spilling over the sink in case the drain is blocked. The overflow is thus a kind of a safety device in your kitchen.

11. What kind of accesories can I select with Alveus kitchen sinks?

Each sink comes with variety of available accessories, some of which are included in the basic purchase price, and some are available to purchase as extras. More often than not a plumbing kit is already included, but please check each individual sink.

12. Care and Maintenance

We aim to supply first-rate products in terms of manufacturing, material and design quality. The sinks care and maintenance should take into account the different properties of each sink material. Every sink is supplied with care and maintenance instructions, which should be followed carefully to ensure long service life to your Alveus kitchen products.

Stainless steel sinks and hob units:

Soft cloths and liquid household cleaners should be used for cleaning. Avoid silver cleaner, steel wool pads, bleach or abrasive detergents.
Do not deposit unprotected metal objects onto the stainless steel parts. Should stainless steel come into contact with strong acids, flush it immediately with a large amount of water. To avoid staining, do not leave food or corrosive substances (e.g. fruit juice, kitchen salt, vinegar, mustard, mayonnaise etc.) on stainless steel surfaces for longer period of time. We recommend that stainless steel products be wiped with
a dry soft cloth after use to prevent scale formation.

Composite sinks:
Most stains and dirt can be removed with mild liquid nonabrasive household cleaners or ammoniac-based detergents. More difficult stains can be removed with a fine polishing agent; the remains of limestone can be removed with 9% acetic acid (vinegar). Chlorine detergents
(soda hypochlorite) or hydrochloric acids as well as exposure to strong chemicals (varnish removers, oven cleaners, concentrated acids,
lye and similar) can damage the sink finish. Should the contact occur, rinse quickly the surface with water. We recommend the use of original Alveus cutting boards.
